Redevelopment of a historic old-town site
NOSA is proud to support the transformative redevelopment of Tovey Cottage into a nature-focused observatory and visitor centre on Gibraltar's Upper Rock Nature Reserve.
Located on Queens Road near Princess Caroline's Battery, Tovey Cottage Observatory is a privately funded but Government-led project that addresses the previous site's deterioration whilst enhancing its role as a conservation and education hub.
The project includes two brand-new single storey buildings which extends across the existing construction’s footprint on a sloped site surrounded by dense vegetation.
The lower and main building hosts an immersive cinema, research hub and associated service areas. Its accessible roof works as a bird observation viewpoint and open terrace for the joy of visitors.
The upper building has a green roof and houses an incubator space, conference room, a café and shop, which connects to lower building’s roof at the same level.
Externally, a cantilevered terrace dramatically extends over the landscape offering breathtaking panoramic views and seamless integration with Gibraltar's rugged Upper Rock terrain. Other areas include a bird of prey display area, an amphitheatre, and cascade pods.
This flagship project promotes biodiversity, public engagement, and eco-tourism, delivering a safe, durable facility that celebrates Gibraltar's wildlife legacy.
We ensured a resilient and efficient structural solution that integrates all design elements and challenging particulars of the site and client.
Through extensive expertise in engineering design, NOSA has built a reputation for delivering innovative, reliable, and efficient designs that offer sustainable, value-for-money solutions. Ready to bring your project to life? Contact us today to discuss how we can make it happen.
